Daily our news reporters insist we have something more to worry about personally, locally, nationally and globally…physically, emotionally, financially, socially, and politically. It feels like an impending avalanche of chaos ready to bury us alive.

Yet, in the midst of the prevailing bad news, God has promised us in Scripture that He will take care of His children—that He will supply ALL our needs “according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). No wonder the apostle Paul could say earlier in that same epistle: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God” (Philippians 4:6). Of course, Matthew 6:8 reminds us that our Heavenly Father knows our needs even before we ask Him. Remember also 1 Peter 5:7 that tells us we can cast all our cares on Him. Why? Because He cares for us.

Folks, these are not just hollow platitudes. These are promises from the God of Integrity, the God who cannot lie and the One who does everything He promises. 2 Peter 3:9 even tells us the Lord is not slow about those promises—i.e. they happen in His perfect timing and in His perfect way; not ours. So, we either choose to trust Him to take care of what we fear or not. Psalm 11:11 is as clear as it gets: “You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord.”  

My encouragement today is for all of us to hold on tightly to the words of Psalm 56:4 “In God, whose word I praise, in God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid...” Makes me want to break out into the old song: “Standing on the Promises.” Sing it if you know it or listen to it online if you don’t. It is a beloved hymn of the faith for a reason: the people of God have always needed the reminder. Our Loving Heavenly Father is a Faithful Promise-Keeper.
