Genesis 16:13 – "'You are the God who sees me,' for she said,
'I have now seen the One who sees me.'" (NIV)

I was really frustrated about something the other day. I felt like I was trying to protect someone and wanted a situation to be different. And I felt that I had the solution for making it so. But it really wasn’t the time to push my agenda.

I went home and continued to feel stirred up. So I just had to get into the Word of God. When I did, I read the account in Genesis 16 where Sarai gave her handmaiden Hagar to her husband Abraham because she wasn’t able to have children and thought maybe she could through Hagar. Then, when Hagar became pregnant, Sarai regretted her decision and started mistreating Hagar. Hagar ran away and the LORD found her near a spring in the desert and spoke to her about her situation. It didn’t change anything, but Hagar received comfort knowing that the Lord understood her “side of the story” and saw her.

In reading this I realized that the Lord saw my situation, he understood my motive and He could take care of what He wanted taken care of without my agenda.

Hebrews 4:12 – "For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

I’m so glad that I went to Him instead of trying to “fix” the situation. The Lord showed me that what I really needed to do was to surrender my will to Him and He gave me rest. If you noticed, I started this story by telling you I was frustrated and stirred up.

Frustration for Rest…That’s a great trade!
