Questions About Baptism
Read below for some answers to common questions about baptism at Campus Bible Church.
Who Should Be Baptized?
Christians are people who believe that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin. Therefore, salvation occurs only when a person places his or her faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as sufficient payment for his or her sin. The New Testament shows baptism taking place as a response to a person's faith in Christ. There is no instance of anyone receiving baptism before they have responded to Jesus in faith.
Therefore, we believe that baptism should be for believers only. If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are a candidate for baptism. Just as a bride and groom show their love for one another by wearing wedding bands, baptism is an opportunity for believers to show that they have faith in Christ and have begun a new kind of life.

What Does Baptism Symbolize?
Baptism is a way of showing outwardly what has occurred inwardly in a person's life:
While it is not necessary for salvation, it demonstrates submission to God. We practice baptism by immersion at Campus Bible Church because we believe it to be the Scriptural model, illustrating all of the symbolism of a believer's new life in Christ.
- Faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
- Sharing in His death and resurrection illustrated by immersion in water (dead to the old life), then rising again (new life).
- Being symbolically washed, as our sins are cleansed by Christ's death on the cross.
- Because Jesus instructed His people to be baptized, baptism is an act of obedience.

Do We Baptize Infants?
Because we hold to believer's baptism, we do not baptize infants and children too young to grasp its basic significance. We recommend that parents who wish to make a public dedication of their children to the Lord at one of the Child Dedication opportunities that Campus provides throughout the year.

For Children (4th–6th Grade)
Parents of children in the 4th–6th grades should contact the church to inform us of your child’s interest. You will then be contacted and informed of the date for the next Children’s Ordinance Class. We will answer your questions, provide a synopsis of the class, and go over the requirements. Register your child for the next Children’s Ordinance Class. After your child has satisfactorily completed the class, we can schedule a date for baptism.
For Junior High–Adult (7th Grade–18+)
Once you express interest in being baptized through our baptism form, a member of our pastoral staff will set up an appointment for you to discuss baptism. We want to be certain that you understand the significance of baptism. You’ll have an opportunity to share the story of how you came to faith in Jesus Christ and why it is that you are desiring baptism at this time. Once you have met with a pastoral staff member, a date will then be set for your baptism!
