Psalm 46:10

Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

One of my favorite places in the World is the south shore of the Sea of Galilee. I remember: It is so easy to visualize here what it must have been like during Biblical times. It is quiet, except for the birds and the quiet, gentle lapping of the water on the shell-like sand. The water is clear. The lake is calm at the moment. The reeds grow tall in abundance to my right. It smells earthy and fresh. I take a deep breath and sigh in contentment. My heart turns to praise for our magnificent God who made Heaven and Earth; who made me. Psalms 46:10 comes to my mind.  “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” I don’t have to go to Israel to “Be still”. I can go to my backyard next to my favorite rosebush. I can sit in my favorite chair. I must go. I must find that place today where I can take a deep breath and sigh in contentment, for my God is Worthy of praise!

Parents: How do we apply this for our children?
I believe in this busy time it is important to help our children be comfortable in a “Quiet Place.”
Teach your children how special it is to go to a quiet place and talk to God. Listen to the sounds, look at nature, read God’s Word. Even if your child only stays in that quiet place for two minutes, that’s worthwhile! Maybe when you are going for a walk with your children, you can surprise them and stop quickly and say, the Bible says in Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.” Help them experience the moment of quiet praise to our magnificent God!
