I was imagining – maybe a bit irreverently – a conversation in eternity something like this:
Jesus: So, loved one, how are you liking things here in the new heavens and the new Earth?
Me: Lord, it's so wonderful here, I can never thank you enough for opening up Your heart and home to welcome me.
Jesus: I love having you here, walking with Me in the cool of the day in this garden. But I'm also wondering if you've had any surprises since you've been here?
Me: One thing that keeps happening, Lord, is that people keep coming up to me and thanking me. I guess I'm surprised because I was never a missionary or a pastor, I just taught Sunday school a few times and I helped with the kids sometimes. But one man thanked me for praying with the kids in AWANA for a missionary who was having a tough time in Indonesia. He said that that missionary had shared Jesus with him and his whole family. Over many years they were able to lead generations to know you. Another woman thanked me because I had used our church’s prayer guide to ask for release for women in bondage to human trafficking in Bangladesh. Her great-grandmother had come to know freedom and your love. And another man came up to say thank you because his mom had come to know you through Youth for Christ, one of the ministries I prayed for regularly.
Jesus: Why did these stories surprise you so much?
Me: Lord, I'm a little ashamed to say that I often prayed and didn't really think that anything would happen. But every prayer I prayed in faith seems to have accomplished much more than I could've ever imagined! Is there any way I can go back to earth to tell people in my church to stop being distracted and spend more time investing in eternity?
Jesus: It wouldn't do any good, precious one. If they don't trust Me when I say that the Lord of the harvest would send workers into the harvest fields if they prayed, then even someone coming back from heaven couldn't convince them.
Me: Lord, since we're on the subject of prayer, could you explain to me how prayer worked while we were on earth?
Jesus: Sure, the next class will be starting soon. Get your questions ready ....
