Galatians 6:7-10 – "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers."  (NIV)

As I read this I thought growing weary. Sometimes it seems like what we are doing is not having any effect. Laboring doesn't always have quick results. In fact, sometimes we may never know the role we have in the process of someone coming to Christ. Sometimes we have no idea how the Lord is using events in our lives to change someone's life.

Several years ago I was able to go to  a Policeman's Conference in South Africa with my husband Gary. Since I was going to be there I had been asked to sing. I spent a lot of time prepping background tracks and even had my choir record a background recording for a special song. I had all of the recordings in a small bag to take with me. On the last leg of our flight I pulled them out to silently rehearse. When we got ready to land I put it under the seat and when I got off the plane I accidentally left it there and I didn't realize it until we got to the conference grounds. Unfortunately I never was able to recover it. Then the conference asked if I would mind if someone else could take some of my "singing" time for someone local who ended up being able to be there.

While at the conference I had a special time talking to one of the wives of a policeman from Pennsylvania who was there as a speaker. I shared my story of growing up in a believing home and following the Lord from an early age. In high school I had a habit of reading the Word every night…mainily because I wanted to write it in my diary every night. I always thought it was because I had such a good conscious that would keep me from wrong or that made me feel guilty when I had done something wrong. I shared with her how in my 30's I had been encouraged to start reading God's Word cover to cover because it was God's breath. I learned that this was how I would walk in the Spirit. It was the power of the Holy Spirit that was at work within me all through my life, not a strong conscious. God's Word didn't return void.

Leaving the conference and not really doing what I had planned to do,I wondered why I had been there at all. A few years later I went to a Pointman conference at Hume Lake with Gary. The wife of that pastor was there and she shared with me how our conversation had changed her life. During the years since I had seen her she had been reading the Word every day, cover to cover. It was so special to see how the Lord was transforming her. It answered my question about why I had been at the conference.

So…I encourage you, don't grow weary in doing good. No matter how long it takes, when things aren't working out the way you thought they should.. Keep praying that "at the proper time" you will see a harvest.
