1 Peter 3:15 – "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear." (NKJV)
If someone was to ask you “why do you believe in Jesus?” Would you be able to answer them? Have you ever had to give your testimony, your faith story? If someone were to challenge your beliefs, would you be able to make a defense, or would you struggle to think of real reasons you believe beyond, you always have? Here at Campus Bible Church we have recently unveiled our new mission statement: “Enjoying and sharing the abundant life of Jesus.” You see there are two main goals of our Christian faith, one is our own salvation, purification, and sanctification as we grow in our love and knowledge of Jesus Christ. Summed up in the statement of enjoying the abundant life of Jesus.
The second part of our Christian faith is not to keep it to ourselves but rather to share it with the world. God has chosen His followers to spread the good news of Jesus’ love and salvation that He offers to everyone who will call Him Lord. In Romans 10 Paul says “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed: And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?” We are called by Jesus to spread the Gospel to all nations, we call it the Great Commission, its one of the last commands Jesus gave before He ascended into heaven.
So you see it is not enough for us to simply enjoy the abundant life of Jesus, and keep that truth to ourselves. If we are truly followers of Jesus we must follow His command to share our faith with others. And how could we not want to share the amazing hope we have because of the undeserved gift of salvation from Jesus Christ. But notice the last part of this verse, we are not called to beat people over the head with this knowledge. With meekness and fear, or reverence we are called to share the Gospel. Remember we don’t change hearts, only the Holy Spirit can do that, we are simply called to have the conversation and let God do the rest.
So pray for opportunities to share the love of God with others and God will give you open doors if you are looking for them. Familiarize yourself with the reasons you believe the good news and make sure you can articulate that to anyone who may ask. God has placed you in unique places, and situations, and your relationships provide you with a testimony that will be received differently as compared to others. We are all missionaries, whether we are overseas or just at work or school, so don’t waste the opportunities that God gives you, for the time is short.
