Daily Devotional

The BACKYARD. SOMETIMES.

Sometimes it is the backyard with the Lord we need.

Sometimes the quietness and restfulness.

Sometimes just beauty (Psalm 27:4).
Sometimes just to linger with You.

Sometimes just simple life and pleasures.
Not Sunset Magazine, but simplicity,
quietness and peace in Jesus’ presence.

Sometimes just talking, leaning against a
sycamore, not planning or engaging.

Sometimes thankfulness, with humble, quiet praise.
Oh Maker, Sustainer, Your smile!

Sometimes the blanket of Your love against
the cold of the world. Love covers all (Proverbs 10:12).

Sometimes surrounded and enclosed by full,
benevolent life (John 10:10).

Sometimes trees and sometimes flowers,
and sometimes waiting and not profiting,
not producing. Resting in God’s work, finished
from the foundation of the world (Hebrews 4:3).

Sometimes not the high, bright sun,
but the long shadows.

Sometimes the lane that does not go
anywhere, but it carries us to the unknown
and sublime.

Sometimes the gate into the unknown, the
unexplored, one more pathway into the
infinite glory of the One.

Sometimes a look at the resurrected One.

Sometimes first all this, central all this. Then
comes the fruit (Matthew 23:26).

Sometimes all is well, all is right, in the
backyard. Then to the front, the road, the
world. Riches received, riches given.

More often, and more often . . . the BACKYARD!
