Daily Devotional

Representing is something we know all about in western culture: whether you work for Macy’s, Chick-fil-A, Fresno Unified, or represent Campus Bible Church.… carrying something bigger than ourselves is not uncommon to most of us. We understand wearing uniforms,  instead of our personal street clothes, and using professional greetings as part of stewarding appropriate expectation for those we represent.

Yet between our American independence and cultivated personal liberties, our inward current to prioritize ourselves daily, pushes up against us appropriately carrying the most important mantle we represent: The Kingdom of Heaven and the Savior who purchased our freedom with His own costly blood.

I wonder how we would live daily if each one of us was given a 20 second glimpse of the wonder, power and glory of Jesus in His throne room? Like what Isaiah and the Apostle John saw in Isaiah 6 and Revelation 1? Their responses were “I’m ruined!” and John feel down like a dead man. I can’t imagine we would so easily lose track of our “Ambassador” roll, if we could truly see the God who was, and is and is to come.

If you looked back at this past week, how well do you think you’ve represented the Kingdom of Heaven and our precious Savior? What hurting people did you help? What offense did you forgive? What paragraphs did you not say in self-control, and what actions of love were you compelled to do?

I’m reminded of the meaning of my favorite son Christopher’s name (don’t worry, he’s my only son:). Christopher means- “Bearer of Christ.” That’s my prayer for his life, my life, and for our whole church family today.

If recent days have had few examples that reflect our King and our true Homeland, shame is unneeded since the Cross is so powerful, but, the Holy Spirit is also powerful! He’s big enough to guide and strengthen you in abnormal ways in the days ahead, to genuinely be a bearer of Christ. If it’s your desire, join me in this prayer today: “Father, I thank you that you called me out of darkness, and brought me into your marvelous light. So please help me to honor that mercy and your ever-present love, and open doors for me into wonderful adventures to carry the banner of Jesus...high! In His name with pray, amen.”
