"Surrounded"
“And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” 2 Kings 6:17
“We’ve got you surrounded!” Does that statement give you a feeling of confidence or fear? Being surrounded can actually conjure either one of those strong emotions, all based on our perception of what we’re surrounded by. You could be surrounded by a loving family and you could be surrounded by enemies that want your downfall.
In Elisha position, the King of Arm was gunning for him with a huge army and had Elisha and his servant surrounded, because of His faithfulness to God and the people of Israel. Yet as Elisha’s servant began to panic because of this seemingly disaster situation, Elisha prayed this simple prayer in response to the coming doom in 2 Kings 6:17: “And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” Even though they were surrounded by a huge army, that army ways surrounded by the armies of Heaven!
Can you think of a time in your life where you felt surrounded and your heart was overwhelmed? Today let’s let another beautiful reminder of scripture wash over our hearts and minds, that even in the darkest night, even if we are surrounded, as children of God and citizens of heaven, we are always completely surrounded and have fiery angel armies contending for the cause of light and righteousness!
We are God’s kids and we bear His unmistakable mark! Ephesians 1:13-14 says, “… When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.”
So let’s remember that wonderful promise as we go in to this next Sunday worship service together. Let’s lift up a holy roar of faith and praise, because God and His armies are near, and we are surrounded!
