2 Chronicles 7:14

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

What timely hope there is in this promise from God! This is the road map for how to heal our broken and sinful land. It is so simple, and yet it is also difficult for us at the same time. You see, God has promised that He will hear our prayers from heaven, that He’ll forgive our sins, and that He will heal our land. If there was ever a time we needed that, it is now! However this is a conditional statement, it’s not just that God will do it and so we sit back and wait for it, not at all. The first word of the verse is perhaps the most important… if. God is waiting for us to turn to Him and IF we do that, THEN He will hear, forgive, and heal.

As humans stuck in our sin, this command can be a hard thing. It’s hard for us to let go of our pride, our political views, our fear, our need to be right, and instead humble ourselves before God and man. Right now in the height of an election cycle, and a very divisive one at that, it is especially hard to let go of our opinions and instead choose to love one another, but that is what we need right now. We need to be loving more than we need to be right. That is what humility looks like.

We also are called to pray. Right now you might find yourself with extra time due to lack of work, or lack of activities, or lack of gatherings. What better way to fill that time than to focus on God and pray. Pray for His peace, pray for patience, pray that He will remove your fears and doubt. And don’t forget to praise Him in prayer, praise Him for the many things you DO have and ARE blessed with in this troubled time. Praise is an amazing attitude adjuster and I think we can all use a little of that these days.

If we as God’s people will commit to turning from our sin, and seeking God’s face, then He WILL hear from heaven and forgive us and heal our land. Let us be God’s love here on earth, and wait on the LORD to do the rest!
