Colossians 2:8

“See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.”

The Lord saved me while I was a senior in college. I was preparing to graduate and then immediately go on to earn my Master’s and then a Doctorate in clinical psychology. I had it all planned out. I was going to be a young Sigmund Freud and have people pay me $250 an hour to interpret their dreams. No, seriously, that was the plan. And it would have worked out, too, because unsaved people in the world are desperate for answers to their big problems in life!

After getting saved, I went out and purchased a few large poster boards. I wrote Bible verses on these in giant letters and hung them all over my dorm room. I did it because I needed to be reminded that the unsaved world is offering bandaids to an eternal sin problem. I needed to remind myself…with the Word of God…that only Christ Jesus can offer anyone something of eternal substance. The first verse I put on one of those poster boards was Colossians 2:8. This verse was a verse that kept me grounded in seeking after truth and to not allow worldly messages, leanings, bents, and humanistic philosophies to derail me from the path of godliness.

I wonder, beloved… Have you been allowing anything into your home, your life, or your smartphone that is derailing you from what Christ wants for you? If yes, then perhaps you should buy a poster board and write Colossians 2:8 on it, memorize it, and then recall it to mind every time worldly influences come knocking on your door!
