Psalm 46:10 - "Be still and know that I am God."
Do you ever feel like you are in a holding pattern?
It's like loading onto a plane and waiting for it to take off. You have everything ready and have stored your carry on in the overhead bin. You sit down into your assigned seat and put on your seat belt. You have your headphones in and music set, or maybe a book in the seatback in front of you prepared to read when you take off. The flight attendant has gone through the necessary information,
And then you wait…
And wait….
And wait…
The pilot comes on and tells you there is a need to wait….
During that time what can you do? You can read, listen to music, or get acquainted with the person next to you…But you can't do anything to make the plane go. You've prepared as well as can be expected but it's up to the pilot to fly the plane.
Sometimes my life feels like this. I'm preparing for each day by meeting the Lord in His Word. I'm looking to Him for guidance, praying to Him to lead me through the day. Taking the people He brings to my mind in prayer. Walking through my day in a manner that I attempt to be pleasing to Him. But the routine seems like I'm just in a holding pattern. But is it?
Ephesians 6:10–18 says, "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. …"
Being still before the Lord doesn't mean He isn't working. It also doesn't mean you are doing nothing. You are listening, you are preparing, and maybe you are wrestling against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, spiritual hosts of wickedness…all because you are in the right position.
It's not up to me to fly the plane, I just need to be in it so He can get me to the right destination.
Speak O Lord
Keith Getty and Stuart Townend
Verse 1
Speak O Lord as we come to You
To receive the food of Your holy word
Take Your truth plant it deep in us
Shape and fashion us in Your likeness
That the light of Christ might be seen today
In our acts of love and our deeds of faith
Speak O Lord and fulfill in us
All Your purposes for Your glory
Verse 2
Teach us Lord full obedience
Holy reverence true humility
Test our thoughts and our attitudes
In the radiance of Your purity
Cause our faith to rise
Cause our eyes to see
Your majestic love and authority
Words of power that can never fail
Let their truth prevail over unbelief
Verse 3
Speak O Lord and renew our minds
Help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us
Truths unchanged from the dawn of time
That will echo down through eternity
And by grace we'll stand on Your promises
And by faith we'll walk as You walk with us
Speak O Lord till Your church is built
And the earth is filled with Your glory
