Who is your favorite musical artist? One of my favorites as of late has been Charity Gayle. She has a song called “Endless Praise” that I could put on repeat and listen to over and over for hours. Do you have any songs like that? If so, I’m sure just thinking about them puts the rhythm, the lyrics, and (in the vernacular of today’s youth) “all the feels” at the forefront of your mind. I bet you want to put it on now, don’t you? Well, I’m sure you know this but that doesn’t happen by accident, that’s by design. I’d bet if you asked the artist, they’d say that years of sacrifice and practice went into those very feelings about the song. Creating music, like anything worth doing, can be full of hard and amazing moments and in the mix, a song is transformed into something amazing.

Now this may be a stretch, but I’d go out on a limb and say our relationship with God can be a lot like making music. In the passage above, we see a woman whose life was far from perfect. In fact, the Pharisee who is hosting Jesus essentially says that Jesus must not know who she is because if He did, there’s no way He’d let her touch Him. Yet this woman loved Jesus and wanted to grow closer to Him. Even though it was difficult, she understood the importance of creating an opportunity to connect with Him. With deep gratitude and vulnerability, she gave Jesus the best she could offer, and I imagine her relationship with Him grew. Her story shows us how Jesus changes our lives as we create rhythms to spend time with God. As you read this devotional may you be encouraged to know that God wants you to continue to make room for Him. It is in His presence that we experience true growth and amazing transformation.
