Weary
Matthew 11:28–30 - “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My load is light.” (NASB)
Many times, God uses what has happened in my past or present to drive home a lesson He wants me to learn.
This week, God took me back to the time my daughters were little. My daughter stumbled into the room crying. I coaxed, “Come, and tell Mama all about it.” My daughter climbed up into my lap and snuggled down, her tears coursing down her face onto me. “You know I love you. Now tell me what all the tears are about.” With hiccupping breath, she began to pour out her heavy heart. Gently, moving her hair from her face, I kissed her.
After she dumped all her cares on me, I began to softly ask her questions to guide her thinking. Back and forth we talked like this, until she began to get sleepy. All the release of her worry and crying made her very tired. Eventually, her breathing slowed and she contentedly fell asleep in my arms. My warm, soft snuggly daughter rested in my arms. The feeling of love for this little girl, overwhelmed me with joy. I remember being so very thankful that she came to me with her troubles.
This is what these verses are about in Matthew 11:28–30!
Jesus coaxes us to come to Him and express our troubles. Draw close to Jesus and receive His comfort. Jesus wants us to know that He loves us and desires to share the load. We can shed our tears to the Master of the Universe who wants to use His resources to help us and give us rest from our weariness!
