Daily Devotional

As I am reading cover to cover in God's Word I am so grateful that I don't have to sift through to find something that will help me get through what I am feeling. Sometimes I don't even know exactly what I am feeling or why. That's how it was the other morning, I just knew I was sad.

And these verses spoke right to the heart of my sadness. First off, pointing out that the root of my sadness was unbelief. Just the name LORD signified that I needed to be reminded who was in control. Then came the reminder that my LORD, who reigns over me, has power to control my circumstances. Just because my circumstances changed, doesn't mean He changed. I was reminded of Job's exhortation to his wife, "Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?"

The good part of God pointing out our sin is that he is gentle and kind to lead us to repentance and give us hope…He did this for me when He said, "Be of good courage." Confessing my unbelief turned the admonition into a declaration. Now I could put the two of them together and heard, "Be of good courage because the arm of the Lord has not been shortened."

I didn't understand all this until I thought about it for a bit. Sometimes it takes meditating on what He has said.... I hope this encourages you to see how the Word of God is applicable to your everyday life. Jesus, the Word, the breath of God, is able to breathe life into you. "For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
