"Seen and Known"
What feelings come to mind when you think of being “seen and known?” Is it feelings of comfort and safety? Does it make you feel fear or insecure, or feelings of being valued?
As a musician I’ve spent so much of my life in and around others who have pushed to “be seen and heard.” Our whole social media world is built on how to stand out to be seen and known. It seems to be the driving compulsion of so many of us, to get noticed in nearly all aspects of life. And yet when we are noticed, we risk being seen by critical and unaccepting eyes. And yet how amazing if we would actually pause and realize, that through Jesus, the Father already sees and knows us intimately, with deep affirmation. The One who commands all the cells in our lungs, the birds in the sky and the planets that spin above our heads, the true Celebrity of the Universe, He sees and knows me.
If we paused to take that in right now, not just in our familiar head space and intellect, but drank in the weight of being “seen and known” by the One opinion that matters. Way beyond getting a call from the President, or an email from the CEO, the King of all Kings, He sees us. Colossians 1:17 tells us about Jesus that “He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” His opinion is so dominate, that if He changed his mind tomorrow, all the atoms in our very existence would cease bonding together and our world would crumble.
In Matthew 10:30-31 Jesus tells us that, “… even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” And in 1 John 3:1 “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”
Now this may be familiar some of you, but these revelations have literally changed my life! I vividly remember a season years ago writing and releasing a song called “Jesus loves you like that,” prepping to shoot the music video for the song, and in the middle of it all, I realized I still didn’t even know if Jesus loved me like that. Due to waves of rejection and pain, they had shaken my identity button so significantly, I was confident that everyone around me mattered to God, and would even work hard to create music and videos so they knew that, and I was still unsure where I stood personally with Jesus. Thankfully, our gracious God did something so personal to me during that season, that I will never forget, and laid a foundation along with His promises in His word, that I now know like never before, I’m truly seen and known.
I can now sing and love so much freer, while knowing I matter before I even sing one note. It allows us to give our best to our hurting world, without needed them in return, because the Father’s already filled our cup. Oh friends, purpose, peace and mission are incredible by products, when we live from a place of knowing we are seen and known, so don’t miss His precious Kingdom memo today!
