1 Peter 3:12
“For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer…”
Does He still see me?
This is such a significant question that I’ve asked so many times in my years of faith-walk with Jesus, and can only imagine how many of us are also asking this same question now. And though we know that the Father doesn’t miss it when even the sparrow falls to the ground (Matt 10:29), how can we really know we have the attention of the Sovereign eye of “El Roi” the God who sees?
Imagine the confidence you would feel if a presidential security detail followed you around every step during a tumultuous season like this? You would know that, come what may, you were safer than almost anyone else. And yet ironically we are infinitely more protected and seen as the people of God than anyone in the natural.
I’m reminded of the potentially terrifying moment in 2 Kings 6 when Elisha and his servant were surrounded by a giant army because of obedience to speaking the word of the Lord. Both faced the same peril, yet the response of the two is much different from each other. Elisha’s servant was consumed with utter fear; the Prophet Elisha had complete confidence that He was seen and known by Heaven. Verse 17 says, "And Elisha prayed, 'Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.' Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”
Oh how our lives would be different if we walked in that kind of confidence; that we are loved, known, and seen by God at each step of this strenuous season. If we walk in these promises, we will not only “make it” during these times, but we’ll have grace and strength to touch the many hurting around us as well. “For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer…” (1 Peter 3:12).
Let’s drink deep of this promise today church family…together.
